Climate and Health Workshop in Madagascar

IRI staff Laurence Cibrelus and Remi Cousin were in Antananarivo, Madagascar, on October 5-9, 2009 to facilitate the Learning Through Doing Project: Cross Training Workshop for the National Meteorological and Hydrological Service and Ministry of Health Staff in the Use of Meteorological, Climate and Health Data. This workshop was developed through a multi-agency partnership involving contributions from the Climate and Health Working Group-Madagascar, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Meteorology, Institut Pasteur, the Headquarters of the World Meteorological Organization and the World Health Organization Malagasy office. There were a total of 16 participants: five from the climate sector, ten from the human health sector, and one from the veterinary health community. This week of training relied on a curriculum based on the one used at the Summer Institute, which was integrated with local data and tailored to local expectations and language.
