Jeffrey Turmelle received his B.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Lowell, MA in 1987 and a Masters of Technology Management from Columbia University in 2007.
His career started with graphics processing in the early 1980s, including developing graphics libraries for Intel and GKS, and moving on to
developing imaging software for Paragon Imaging, and medical software for Sony USA. In 1997 he joined Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory working aboard the R/V Maurice
Ewing and was responsible for the data systems there.
Role at the IRI
Since 2001, Jeffrey has been a member of the Information Technology
team at the IRI and in 2011 assumed the role of IT Director. His current responsibilities
include managing the IT group, the IRI website, and the computing/networking
infrastructure of the IRI.
Work Interests
In addition to making the servers work, Jeff is particularly interested in
collaborative technologies and is constantly looking for ways to improve the
communication and sharing of information at the IRI.
