Extended Range Forecasting and Agriculture Risk Management, India (ERFS) - ID:109

Project Description

Through a consortium of India's leading institutions in climate research and agricultural management, IRI and other international partners, this project integrates risk management and climate science research to improve both forecasting capacity and the understanding of climate risks in the context of rural livelihoods.

Goals and Objectives

Goal: This project seeks to improve capacity to forecast the Indian summer monsoon, and demonstrate a risk management approach to integrating climate information in addressing climate risks facing farmers in India.

Project objectives:

  • Develop and demonstrate climate risk management frameworks, institutional structures, methods and tools to better adapt rural livelihoods to seasonal and inter-annual climate variability
  • Climate science research for the development of improved, well-calibrated, seasonal climate forecasts and climate information for demonstration districts

Outputs

Training development and implementation assistance for project team members in India on climate science and risk management; coordination with appropriate international stakeholders for data inputs; participation in appropriate development of models, including hosting project staff and partners for collaborative work; development of an online data management system/library similar to Data Library; participation in workshops to share experience in project demonstration sites
